Add a note to the timeline

Adding a note helps you keep a clear record of actions, decisions, and communication linked to your technical file. It ensures that all updates are traceable and easy to follow for you and your team.


Feature access

All users with access to the technical file can add notes. Available on all ProductIP plans.


Steps

1. Select the Timeline tab from the technical file you wish to update. 

2. Click Add note at the top of the timeline.

3. Select the status and enter a clear subject line.

5. Add your note in the description field to explain what is needed or to record internal decisions.

5. (Optional) Upload supporting documents using the file fields.

6. Click Save to add the note to the timeline.


After saving, the note appears under Open activities.

Use the buttons on the right of the activity to edit, delete or close and move the note to history.


To add a comment to an existing note:

1. Open the note listed under Open activities.

2. Scroll to the comment field.

3. Enter your comment and click Add comment.


Tips and best practices

  • Keep the subject short and specific so it is easy to identify in the timeline.
  • Upload only relevant documents to keep timeline concise.


Troubleshooting

  • My changes are not visible. 

Refresh the page to update the activity list.

  • Can I filter notes in the timeline? 

Yes, use the filter to show or hide Tasks, Communication, Notes and File updates. Use the search field to find specific entries quickly.
