Cross reference information using the related files

Modified on Wed, 15 Apr at 9:21 AM

Use the Related files tab to understand how your Technical File connects to other files in ProductIP. This helps you track product versions, link components to finished goods, and reuse supplier data across files. It is especially useful when working with regulatory requirements, where you need to combine data from multiple sources into one complete Technical File.

Feature access

This feature is available for all ProductIP plans.

Before you begin

Make sure:

  • Your Technical Files are created and saved in ProductIP
  • Article numbers are correctly assigned where relevant
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) structures are set up if you work with components
  • Product categories are filled in to enable comparison between similar products

Video instructions

A short step-by-step guide will follow soon!

Steps

  1. Open your Technical File in ProductIP
  2. Click the Related files tab
  3. Review the available sections:
    1. Article history → shows Technical Files with the same article number (for example, different versions or batches)
    2. Bill of materials → shows where this Technical File is used as a component in other files
    3. Similar products → shows Technical Files within the same product category
  4. Expand a section to view related Technical Files
  5. Click a Technical File to open it and review or reuse its data

What to do next:

  • Use Article history to compare versions or track changes over time
  • Use Bill of materials to verify how components are used in final products
  • Use Similar products to reuse data or align documentation across product ranges

Tips and best practices

  • Use consistent article numbers to track product versions clearly
  • Maintain your Bill of Materials to ensure correct product–component relationships
  • Reuse data from related files to reduce duplicate work and improve consistency
  • Use this tab when preparing compliance documentation that depends on supplier input

  • The list is empty but I expect results

- Refresh the page after making changes

- Confirm that your changes are saved
